Following a bench trial, defendant, Joel McNeely, was convicted of the unlawful possession of methaqualone, a controlled substance (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1979, ch. 56 1/2, par. 1402(b)), speeding, and illegal transportation of alcohol. For the offense of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, he was sentenced under the first offender provision (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1979, ch. 56 1/2, par. 1410) to 2 1/2 years probation conditioned upon payment of a fine in the sum of $1,250 and costs. He was fined a total of $80 for the other offenses.
